The Department of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City is seeking a highly qualified general surgery resident who has completed PGY-2 or equivalent training for a one-year postdoctoral research fellowship for the July 1, 2026 - June 30, 2027 academic year. The candidate’s home institution needs to ensure that they will fully fund research year. The fellowship is under the guidance of Ganesh Gunasekaran, MD, Chief of Hepatobiliary Surgery.
The fellowship is designed to hone non-clinical research skills, focusing on hypothesis generation, study design, and data analysis and interpretation. Additional skills including critical review of the published literature and written and verbal communication of study findings are emphasized. Non-clinical research within the Division of Surgical Oncology focuses on hepatopancreatobiliary and gastrointestinal malignancies. Opportunities exist for clinical trial protocol development. Experience in clinical and/or basic/translational research is desirable, but not mandatory. A background in statistics is highly desirable, but not required
Prior fellows have published original manuscripts in high-impact journals and have presented at national and meetings. Research fellows will lead weekly Division research meetings and have the opportunity to participate in multidisciplinary tumor boards and journal clubs. Research fellows will come with their own funding for salary commensurate with their PGY level, and full benefits, including 4 weeks paid vacation.
